A river through a Roman canyon, then a dinner of stories.
Highlights
- Fourteen kilometres of grade II–III whitewater — genuinely exciting, entirely beginner-safe
- A professional guide in the stern of every raft; full briefing and equipment before anyone touches the water
- Drift through a gorge the Romans crossed on the still-standing Oluk Bridge
- A riverside lunch of trout grilled to order, feet dangling over the current
- Home in time to shower and rest before the evening
- The quietest dinner of the ten days: candlelight, slow courses, and each guest's story
Your day, in full
Side is one of the closest bases on the coast to Köprülü Canyon, which is exactly why this day is possible without an early alarm. After breakfast at the hotel, the drive climbs inland through cedar and black pine to the rafting base at the head of the canyon, where the guides are waiting with helmets, jackets and an unhurried, thorough briefing.
Then: into the boats. The run is roughly fourteen kilometres of grade II–III water — genuinely exciting, and entirely beginner-safe with a professional guide in the stern of every raft. The river alternates between glassy drifts beneath canyon walls and short, laughing stretches of whitewater, and partway down it passes under the Oluk Bridge, which Roman engineers set across the gorge and which has simply never fallen down. There are calm pools to swim in, and nobody counts how many waves come over the bow.
Lunch is grilled trout at a riverside table, feet dangling over the current, appetites fully earned. The coach has the group back at Mira Palace by late afternoon, with time to shower, rest and dress unhurried.
The evening is deliberately the gentlest of the week — and perhaps its true centre. The group gathers on a private terrace, one candle each, and over slow courses and good wine, guests take turns telling the story that brought them here. After a week of shared adventures, it lands differently than it would have on night one. That is by design.

Know before you go
- The run is graded level 2 — exciting, splashy and suitable for complete beginners; no experience or particular fitness is required
- Rafting is not recommended during pregnancy or with certain heart conditions — a quiet word with the team beforehand and we will arrange a beautiful alternative day
- Water flow is dam-regulated and reliable through the whole cohort season; a thermal top is provided when the water runs cool
- The evening dinner has one gentle expectation: your story, told your way, at whatever length feels right
